Academy Award Winning Comic 5: 16 Garbage Bags of Blood and Organs Not Fit for the Black Market

Grymm Ramblings

I like drawing and coloring stains and decay and rot and ugliness. Its fun. Its helps build character for a scene. It just looks good. I'm pretty sure I can trace such think to a couple of place. One being the movies and television of the 80's and 90's while I was a kid. Those were glorious days aesthetically. When it was still cost effective to film a movie in New York and their was grime and dirt and decay everywhere. The film stock was analog and might have dirt on it. The only franchise sign you might see is Coke or McDonalds. I never thought much of it at the time, but now, looking back on it from a point in time where movies and TV seem to be digitally corrected and enhanced and cleaned up and almost sterile in how they carve out any and all natural imperfections, I miss it. Then there's the occasion of my first real art evolution. When I stumbled on the works of Jhonen Vasquez by flipping around the TV and coming into the first ever airing of Invader ZIM. From there I dug up everything I could on his works and inhaled his comic offerings. Its kickstarted my art style in a new direction and is probably the only thing that save me from accidentally treading down the generic anime path. Cracks in the walls, dripping, stained, ugly things, overly expressive faces, exaggerated anatomy and movements.... It was glorious and inspirational and just wonderful. It suddenly dragged my brain back to how much I love the Addams Family movies that came out in the early 90's and how enraptured I was with the style and look of everything. I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say at this point. "I like making spooky things?" Yeah, that seems to sum it up. My brain feels wonky right now. Anyway. Hello from yesterday. Because I'm typing this yesterday. I'm actually typing this after having shoved this coming Friday's comic into the uploader. 1. id say first…but that’s cliche…hmmm….subletting…..wonder how that will turn out….

    1. *grabs newspaper and smacks MC on the nose* Bad tracker. No firsting. Bad. Bad.

  2. 1. The Doctor is awesome. NOTHING that has anything to do with him is lame.
    2. BRING ROOK BACK YOU SON’S OF BITCHES!!!!!

    1. Eh? Wha? What Doctor? Who’s talking about a doctor?

      1. Your tags man Your tags. wibbly wobbly time stuff.

        1. Ooooooohh… Right. No Ticker. Its cool. The lame was in reference to making a cheap reference in the first place. Not a judgement on Dr. Who.

        2. Also, Rook will be back eventually. One way or another.

        3. But with a missing limb.

  3. Ticker is right the Doctor is awesome. As for the blood filled bags in the hall, isn’t that supposed to go into a class 9 cellular destabilizer?? How else are you supposed to get the raw genetic material to make the zombie hobos of future attacks??
As for your post dear sir, I heartily agree. Most of modern cinema is too sterile, too clean. Even the “gritty” movies are almost too pristine and loose a part of the emotional context. (Raul Julia made the best Fester Addams.) So please keep making “spooky things” cause I for one enjoy looking at your spooky works.

    1. Raul Julia playing Gomez Addams and then playing M.Bison in the Streetfighter movie somehow forever hard wired my brain to believe that the M.Bison character design is incomplete if it doesn’t have a moustache. Seriously. Look at M.Bison and tell me he wouldn’t look better with a Raul as Gomez moustache!

      1. Though the mustache would complete M.Bison, the writers should have given M. Bison at least as much fighting skill as Gomez. I mean Gomez could fence. Could throw his brother around like a rag doll. M.Bison threw a few weak punches then died. Meh

        1. Yeah, let’s be honest. Even Thing could have wiped the floor with the entire cast of the Streetfighter movie.

  4. Oh Rook~ *sweet smile* I still desire to see thee spitted and roasted over a slow burning flame made of plastics~

On a side note, I agree with an earlier comment, I believe tis the mass moving in. With his lovely lady friend.

On the note of icky, garbagy settings; Vasquez was a freaking genius and nick didn’t know how lucky they had it to have such a good and /unique/ artist on their staff!

    1. The evidence does seem to suggest it.

As far as Nick goes. Well. That’s what happens when a studio is run by people that know more about numbers and uncompromising marketing than what people like and want to see. Also. Money. One of the huge factors of things was the money and ZIM costing entirely more than the rest of the shit the studio was having made.

      1. The evidence suggests it? You guys are such good storytellers that I knew it before the last comic hit, or I may just be travelling through time…. You decide…..

  5. I love the spooky things you make. In fact it’s kind of the highlight of my days.

    1. Mine too! What a coincidence!

    2. And here I thought I was the only one. Here’s to you Sunshine.
